CURIE Academy excels in providing immersive, project-based learning. Every activity, from mixing concrete to programming IoLT sensors, made abstract concepts feel tangible. For example:
IoLT Research: Using Arduino-based soil sensors to collect agricultural data showed how engineering directly impacts sustainability.
Synthetic Biology: Streaking yeast plates to create colorful patterns blended creativity with cutting-edge biology.
By actively engaging in these projects, I gained a deeper understanding of engineering’s potential to address real-world challenges.
Confidence Through Community
One of the most surprising parts of CURIE was how quickly it felt like a second home. From the start, everyone was welcoming and supportive. The Program Assistants (PAs)—Cornell students themselves—were an incredible resource. Whether we were asking questions about campus life or Cornell’s academic programs, their insights gave us a firsthand look into life as a student at Cornell.
Even after the program ended, the sense of community stayed alive. To this day, our CURIE group chat is still active, and there's updates and texts there from time to time. CURIE isn’t just a weeklong experience—it provides you with a network of like-minded peers and mentors.
Exploring Cornell and Building Connections
One of the standout aspects of CURIE was how much we got to explore Cornell’s beautiful campus. From walking tours and visits to spots like Triphammer Falls to evening strolls led by our RAs, we got an insider’s perspective on one of the nation’s top universities.
On top of that, we walked away with not only memories but also plenty of Cornell merch—two engineering T-shirts, a sleek water bottle, a lab notebook, and more. While these goodies weren’t the main focus, they added a personal touch to the experience and left us with keepsakes to remember the week by.
Even after CURIE ended, we received resources, advice, and connections that continue to help us today.
